How To Turn 16 Days Of PTO Into 55 Days Of Vacation In 2025

Americans get the fewest vacation days in the world, according to a recent study, averaging just 11 days a year. On top of that, half don’t even use all the time off they’re given, leaving many of us vacation deprived. But there’s an easy way to change that and it’s all about using long weekends from federal holidays and combining them with a few paid time off days.

  • In 2025, six federal holidays fall on a Monday and the Fourth of July is on a Friday, which gives workers several 3-day weekends.
  • If you plan ahead, you can extend those long weekends into extended breaks throughout the year.
