Dion's Pizza Selling Pizza Boards Made By Formerly Incarcerated Dads

Dion’s Pizza and Fathers Building Futures Partner to Create and Sell Handcrafted Pizza Boards

Dion’s has collaborated with Fathers Building Futures to craft exclusive pizza boards. The pieces are handmade at the Fathers Building Futures workshop in Albuquerque, New Mexico by formerly incarcerated dads looking to build new skills.

Each pizza board is unique and created using an assortment of woods including walnut, African mahogany, white maple, cherry, red oak, poplar, and cedar.

The boards are perfect for homemade pizza making, displaying a charcuterie spread, or even as a decorative piece. The boards can be exclusively purchased online in the Dion’s Fan Shop (shop.dions.com) for $35 and nationwide shipping is available.

Proceeds are returned to Fathers Building Futures to continue client programming. “The dads in our program are an inspiration,” said Peter Sanchez, The Atrisco Companies CEO, parent company to Fathers Building Futures, “The partnership with Dion’s, which allows the dads in the Fathers Building Futures program to build their skills making pizza boards, is just one small way to help our mission succeed.” Fathers Building Futures is a social enterprise with a mission to ensure parents and families experiencing barriers from incarceration receive the best opportunities.

Participants in the program are equipped with on the job employment training, parenting and life skills, family reunification strategies, financial literacy, individual and group mentorship, as well as paths to job certifications and sustainable career placement. “Because both Dion’s and Fathers Building Futures have a strong commitment to strengthening the community, this is a natural collaboration,” noted Dion’s CEO, Mark Herman, “The craftsmanship of the boards is impressive. When customers buy them, they not only get a beautiful and fun piece of kitchenware, they also support dads working to better their lives.” Joseph Lucero, a Fathers Building Futures client added, “We are grateful for this partnership because it gives our fathers an opportunity to build beautiful boards that we are proud of. It’s rewarding to know our work is contributing to shared family moments gathered around the boards and great food.”
