The "Best McDonald's In The World" Is NOT In The United States

Fast food restaurants can all feel the same no matter where you are, which can be a good thing if you’re in a strange city and want to get food you’re used to. But there can be standouts in a sea of sameness and one McDonald’s in Wales is being called the “best in the world” by a Michelin-starred chef.

U.K. chef Gareth Ward, who runs two-Michelin-star restaurant Ynyshir [[UN-is-heer]] Restaurant & Rooms in Wales, is a big fan of the McDonald’s location in Welshpool, Wales, just across the border from England. He’s not only calling it the best in the world, but one of the top three restaurants in the country as well.

So what makes this particular Mickey D’s so good? Part of what sets it apart is its menu. You can get a Big Mac anywhere, but at this location you can also reportedly get chicken sandwiches with truffle mayo and McFlurries made with Cadbury chocolate. Other unique menu items they serve include the McPlant, a plant-based burger made with Beyond Meat, and Nacho Cheese Wedges filled with spicy jalapeno slices. This McDonald’s is less than two years old and Google reviews also praise it for the quick service and friendly staff.

  • It’s just absolutely smashing it,” Ward says of the Welch McDonald’s. “Everybody I speak to says this is, by far, the best McDonald’s in the world.”
