A List: The Most Annoying Christmas Songs

This time of year, we hear holiday music playing just about everywhere we go, but that doesn’t mean we always enjoy the tunes. New research looks into which Christmas songs are the most and least liked by Americans.

  • Using Google Trends data, FinanceBuzz found the most popular Christmas song in each state.
  • They also polled 12-hundred U.S. adults about the Christmas songs they find most annoying.
  • And it turns out, in some states the most popular song is also the most disliked.
  • Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is the most popular Christmas song in 10 different states, the most of any song in the study.
  • It’s the most-searched song in the Northeast and in the South.
  • Five songs top the list in at least three states: “Run Rudolph Run,” “It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” and Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad.”

  • Interestingly, Mariah’s mega hit song is also the most annoying, according to the survey.
