The States With The Most People Moving In (and Out)!

Does the New Year have you thinking about a new place to live? New research from a moving company shows where a lot of folks are relocating to and from across the country.

United Van Lines’ 47th annual National Movers Study has just come out, revealing the states where most people moved to and from in 2023. According to their research:

  • More Americans moved to Vermont than any other state for the third year in a row in 2023, with 65% of moves there being inbound.
  • The top reasons for the moves were to be closer to family (29%) and for a lifestyle change (20%).
  • As for the state with the most residents moving out, that would be New Jersey, for the sixth consecutive year. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of New Jersey moves were outbound last year.
  • The biggest motivation for moves out of the Garden State was folks looking to retire (27%).
