The Emmys were last night, hosted by Anthony Anderson. The night was packed with big moments and big wins!

Let’s break down the big moments and big wins:

  • “Succession” won Oustanding Drama Series, while ”The Bear” won Oustanding Comedy Series.
  • Kieran Culkin gave an emotional speech after winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He thanked the cast and his family quickly because he “wasted his time” hugging everyone! Holding back tears he thanked his mom and his wife…and told his wife that he “wants more” children.
  • “The Bear” won many awards last night, including Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series by Jeremy Allen White, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series by Ayo Edebiri! This gives Ayo her first Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Emmy all in one week.
  • Matty Matheson and Ebon Moss-Bachrach shared a kiss on stage after “The Bear” won Outstanding Comedy Series. Matheson, who is a chef, shared that “I just love restaurants so much” after he recovered. He also praised the cast and crew, sharing “It’s really beautfiul, its hard work…I love all these people so much!”
  • Five of the 12 acting Emmys handed out this year went to performers of color. This is the most wins for performers of color since 1991 when Lynn WhitfieldMadge SinclairRuby Dee, and James Earl Jones took home wins (with Jones taking home two wins). This year Ayo EdebiriQuinta BrunsonNiecy Nash-BettsSteven Yeun, and Ali Wong all took home awards, tying the 1991 record.
  • Elton John finally achieved EGOT status! His Disney+ special, “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium,” took home the award for Outstanding Variety Special. John wasn’t able to attend as he was dealing with a knee injury, but shared a statement. “I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight. The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world.”
  • "Better Call Saul" set an Emmys record for…most losses ever. It had received 53 Emmy nominations during its run. It never won a single one.
  • Christina Applegate was met with a standing ovation as she presented the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. “Oh my God, you're totally shaming me with disability by standing up. It's fine . . . Body not by Ozempic!" She joked. She added "we don't have to applaud every time I do something.”
  • The In Memoriam section paid tribute to late stars such as Andre BraugherLance ReddickPaul Reubens, and more. When the segment switch to honoring the late Matthew Perry, the song changed from Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” to a somber cover of the “Friends” theme song…“I’ll Be There for You” by The Rembrandts.
  • Pedro Pascal showed up on stage in an arm sling, and he took the opportunity to call back to Kieran Culkin winning the Best Actor in a Drama series award at the Golden Globes. Culkin had told Pedro “suck it!” last week. While presenting the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Pedro joked that he’s in a sling because “Kieran Culkin beat the s*** out of me.”
  • Roy Wood Jr., a former correspondent on “The Daily Show,” went viral after he was spotted mouthing “Please hire a host” as he stood behind Trevor Noah, who was giving an acceptance speech for “The Daily Show” winning the Outstanding Talk Series award.
