Americans are some of the most overweight people in the world, according to research. Data from the CDC shows that nearly 42% of U.S. adults are obese, and while there are overweight people everywhere, some cities have a higher population of them than others.

  • WalletHub has just come out with their annual list of the Most Overweight & Obese U.S. Cities.
  • They compared 100 of the most populated metro areas across the country on 19 key metrics of weight-related problems in the areas of obesity & overweight, health consequences and food & fitness.
  • Cities were rated on everything from the share of overweight and obese adults and teens, the share of adults with health issues related to weight, like diabetes, access to healthy food and more.
  • The report names McAllen, Texas, as the most overweight city in the country in 2024.
  • It comes in second for both food & fitness indicators, and health consequences indicators.
  • San Antonio, Texas, 21st overall, is first for obesity & overweight indicators.
  • On the flip side, the city with the least amount of overweight people is Seattle, Washington, followed by Honolulu, Hawaii.
