15 TikTok Food Hacks Worth Trying

Fans on TikTok are always coming up with novel ideas about everything under the sun, and TastingTable has compiled a list of 15 food hacks that are worth checking out. Here’s what they found that may be of use to you.

  1. Air Fryer Pancakes - The Food Guy has come up with a hack to prepare pancakes with an air fryer instead of a pan and spatula. Just put a square of parchment paper in the bottom of the air fryer, add batter, place more squares to make a stack, and cook at 300 degrees F for perfectly browned pancakes.
  2. Rice Bowls – Zuzu’s rice bowl hack uses bowls to create the perfect form for a rice bowl. Take a large bowl, place another bowl upside down inside of it, and pile rice on top of and around the inside bowl. Pack the rice, place a plate on top of the rice, and flip the bowl over then pull off the large bowl first and then the smaller one to see a bowl made of rice.
  3. Oreo Mug Cake – this hack takes a large, microwaveable mug and drops four Oreos in the bottom topped with a cup of milk. Smash that together and add a tablespoon each of sugar and flour along with ½ teaspoon of baking powder and a teaspoon of cocoa powder. Drop in one more Oreo and cook in in the microwave for 1 minute. You can add vanilla ice cream if you want to be completely indulgent.
  4. Avocado Water Storage - Renne Reina has a hack for storing avocados in water to prolong their life. Just submerge them in water, store them unopened and unpitted, and take them out and dry them when you are ready to use to extend their ripeness.
  5. Ice Cream Fruit Roll-Ups – TikToker Andy's Life uses fruit roll-ups and vanilla ice cream to make a treat similar to mochi. Use sheeted roll-ups, unfurl them, and scoop vanilla ice cream on top. Wrap the corners around the ice cream and seal the edges, then put them in the freezer to end up with a frozen fruit roll-up with ice cream in the middle.
  6. Lemon Squeeze – A hack from jocylenne turns a whole lemon into a lemon squirter. Squish a whole lemon a small amount on the counter to get as much juice from the fruit, insert a toothpick into the end and you’re able to use the lemon as a squirter. It’s that simple!
  7. Enhanced Store-Bought Cinnamon Rolls – instructions for this hack come from tammylouiseee to make store-bought cinnamon rolls special. Put canned cinnamon rolls into a deep casserole dish and pour heavy whipping cream between them. Then add melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a bit of vanilla and stir to get a paste. Then cover the rolls with this mixture, cook in the oven and you’re done. You can also use the leftover paste as extra frosting.
  8. Ritz Cheese Cutter - The Real Nodbody takes a Ritz cracker and turns it on its side then presses it into a piece of cheese or meat while rolling the Ritz like a pizza cutter. The scalloped edges of the cracker will act as a cutter and you won’t need a knife at all.
  9. Peeled Strawberries - Chef José Andrés says to peel the seedy exterior off of strawberries with a small pairing knife and the result is a more enjoyable version of your standard strawberries.
  10. Mayonnaise as a Binder – TikToker Roice Bethel says that by using mayonnaise as a binder you can improve your chicken tenders. Just replace your regular binding agent with mayonnaise and breadcrumbs stick to the tenders better yielding great results.
  11. Ramen Popcorn – this ramen popcorn hack involved popping a bag of microwave popcorn and then dumping the seasoning packet of the ramen in to make a unique flavor. Swervinervin recommends using chicken ramen. You could also take a ramen packet to the movie theater and add it to your popcorn there as well.
  12. Cupcake Trick - Kroger's recommendation involves using dry rice when making cupcakes. Sprinkle the rice in the bottom of each cup in your cupcake time and cook as you normally would. The cupcakes slip out easily and there’s no sticking on the bottom. This hack also works when making muffins
  13. Sandwich Sliders - Brooke from mealsandmunchies says to slice a package of King’s Hawaiian rolls to end up with a top and bottom with the rolls still connected in one piece. Add any meats, cheeses, and condiments, and put the top back on. You can then cut the sandwiches individually as sliders without having to make them individually.
  14. Cupcake Sandwich – Actress Anne Hathaway claims that we have been eating cupcakes all wrong on an episode of the Kelly Clarkson show. She says to twist the bottom part of the cupcake carefully and then put it on top of the frosting. This ends up being a cupcake ‘sandwich’ that’s much easier to eat with less mess.
  15. Wine Glass For Dip - helengbailey has a hack to use a wine glass for making a chip and dip bowl. Get a large bowl and wine glass and place the wine glass in the middle of the bowl surrounded by chips and crackers then fill the wine glass with your chosen dip or spread. It’s a simple way to solve the problem of chips and dip presentation.
