BEING HYDRATED MAY HELP YOU BE A BETTER PERSON

We’ve all heard how important it is to our health, both mental and physical, to stay hydrated, but new research is revealing some unexpected benefits to drinking plenty of water. In honor of National Drinking Water Week (May 5th to 11th), a survey commissioned by Brio Water looks into how our water intake impacts everything from work quality to relationships and mood.

The poll of 2-thousand American adults finds:

  • On a regular day, 68% of respondents say they’re typically hydrated, 10% are dehydrated and 22% say they’re somewhere in-between.
  • So how much water are they drinking? On average, people report drinking five glasses of water a day.
  • But just over a quarter (26%) of those polled admit they avoid drinking water in general because they’re afraid of having to take too many bathroom breaks during the day.
  • People who are hydrated on a regular basis are more receptive to constructive criticism than those who are dehydrated (33% versus 22%).
  • Those who are well hydrated are also slightly more likely to help a coworker in need (45%) than dehydrated people (40%).
  • Folks who say they’re hydrated on an average day are also more likely than their dehydrated counterparts to cook (64% versus 58%), spend quality time with friends and family (62% compared to 50%) and read (53% versus 50%).
  • More than half (57%) of those surveyed say they’re a nicer person when they’re sufficiently hydrated.
  • And 80% say their lives, including work quality, relationships, health and mood, would all be better if they improved their hydration.
  • When they do drink enough water, people feel more productive (36%), more prepared for the day (32%), have more control of the day (29%) and even feel more confident (27%).
