Americans love reality TV - so much so that the average American watches it four days a week, according to a new survey. That adds up to an average of 10 hours of reality TV a week, but it’s a lot more for the 31% who admit they watch it every single day.
The poll of 2-thousand U.S. reality TV viewers 21 and older reveals how often we watch it and which shows we love the most.
- The majority of respondents say watching reality TV gives them “me time” to relax and unwind (64%), and some say they watch it to keep up with their favorite celebs and personalities (10%).
- Modern shows that are currently running are preferred by 61% over older, classic reality show reruns.
- Over three-quarters (76%) switch between different shows rather than watching the same one.
- More than half (59%) of those polled prefer streaming shows instead of watching them live on cable, which may be because 64% would rather binge-watch an entire season than watch one episode at a time.
- Some fans love reality TV so much they’d like to be a participant on their favorite show (43%). The top shows they’d like to be on include “Family Feud” (15%), “Big Brother” (9%) and “America’s Got Talent” (9%).
- Over half (59%) of women surveyed like to include watching reality TV on a “girls night in,” and 52% of them like to sip a glass of wine while they catch up on their shows.
